What We Offer

Professional Training

We offer a wide range of training workshops at introductory, general and experienced levels, and our workshops are livestreamed and offered as online study.

 

 

Peer Knowledge & Sharing

As a community of producers and self-producing artists, we share advice, resources, knowledge & tips and assist each other when needed.

 

 

Network Events

We will be holding regular events open to all, including roundtable discussion events and producer counselling afternoons.

 

 

Advocacy & Research

As an independent body, we aim to advocate on behalf of independent dance artists and the wider independent dance sector, using evidence-based research.

 

 

A GFA Support Group

We're planning to set up a support group to support people during the GFA-writing process, with coworking, advice and a supportive community.

We have an active discussion group for sharing news, industry updates, jobs, funding news and more.

 

 

Professional Development

We offer action learning sets for producers, and we offer our members personal development plans, including mentoring, coaching, shadowing, placements and buddying.

Avatâra is an independent dance artist based in London since 2007. She is Artistic Director of her project based dance company AVA Dance, Associate Artist of European Center for the arts Hellerau Dresden and Associate Company of The Creative Academy Slough. Avatâra was nominated for the 2015 UK National Dance Awards.
Avatâra has an extensive knowledge of different dance sectors across the world (from Japan, and Burkina Faso to Cuba and European sectors). In parallel to her choreographic career, Avatâra has received funds from different organisations to develop as a cultural leader. Avatâra has completed studies in leadership with the Open University UK and with the prestigious Clore Leadership Programme UK (Emerging Leaders) among others. She is committed to support the dance sector in the UK, being an active member of Equity (Performers UK Union) and One Dance UK. Avatâra is also fully committed to empowering women and girls around the world, taking part in various initiatives to promote change and equality as “Inspiring the Future, Inspiring Women” and "Inspiring Girls"

Gerrard Martin trained at De Montfort University, gaining a BA Hons in English Literature and Performing Arts; he then went on to Northern School of Contemporary Dance and obtained a Diploma in Professional Dance Studies

He has danced for the Rosie Kay Dance Company, and has toured nationally with Tavaziva Dance, Union Dance Company, as well as dancing for the West End's production of the Lion King, Ballet Black, Aletta Collins Dance Company, State of Emergency, and Phoenix Dance Company.

Aside from modeling, commercial dance contracts, and film engagements, Gerrard has also danced for National Theatre, has toured internationally with the ‘English National Opera’, and the Royal Opera House.

Currently Gerrard is teaching and mentoring on the Children Youth Dance and Adult Classes & Courses programme at the Place, and is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Northampton.

Gerrard has choreographed for Outbox Theatre, Longborough Opera, British Museum, Pegasus Opera and the National Portrait gallery. The West Bengal Federation of Dance, India commissioned Gerrard’s choreography for World Dance Day.

He created his project-based company ‘Gerrard Martin Dance’ in 2011 and has had work featured at the Emerge, Between the Lines, South Bank Urban, Let’s Dance International, and Cloud Dance Festivals. Gerrard's work has also been selected for The Field Film festival, UK and the Athens Video Dance Project, Greece.

He was an assistant choreographer on the One Love Musical, (Bob Marley), and the 40th UAE Royal Anniversary Performance, Abu Dhabi.

Gerrard aims to produce works of emotive and socially relevant dance-theatre; to teach and facilitate creativity through movement, yoga, and dance, and wishes to collaborate and engage with artists across different mediums.

He is part of the first cohort of The Kerry Nicholls Dance Mentoring Programme, and is a trained Yoga teacher.
