I am a dance maker and performer, creating performance and exploring choreographic research often initiated by a feeling, a vision, a protest, a disapproval, a light joy, a balancing, a movement, being in movement.

My dance practice involves exploring the interplay of movement and voice through improvisation and release technique; weaving relational, representational movement found in the everyday with more abstract, sculptural movement.

I dance ambiguously and ambitiously, often shifting between the two.

My work takes shape in many forms and involves the bringing together of dance, visual art, space and sound. To me, dancing and performance can become a space for meeting, and so I often invite people to contribute to the making of a work, or in the live performance include improvisational elements that are interactive with audiences, so that it becomes an experience in support of moving alive and together, a work of many.
I am an Associate Artist at Attenborough Arts Centre and a member of INTERVAL, an artist-led support network in Bristol, UK.

Jen Wren is a multi-skilled international dance artist and creative director with a passionate curiosity for the body and communicating stories through dance and film. In 2004, she formed Slanjayvah Danza, producing over 20 professional choreographies for stage and screen. www.slanjayvahdanza.com

Jen’s creations are grounded in artistic, human or scientific concepts and draw on stories from real life, to create art that resonates across cultures and generations. Jen has secured a reputation for capturing audiences’ attention with her thought-provoking and versatile artistic voice and enjoys an incredibly diverse career in dance, garnering acclaim for a string of choreographic productions and tours.

She collaborates with a wide range of artists and organisations with professional and community work being commissioned and performed in the UK, Spain, France, Netherlands, USA, Qatar and Singapore. Jen has worked with KMA (movement director), Camera 2 (creative director), The Rugby League World Cup/ Grand Visionary Solutions (choreographer), Les Commandos Percu (choreographer/dancer), Al Ryyan Productions (Creative Director), Conservatorio de Danza de Sevilla (choreographer), whist also pursuing regular creative ventures with a variety of independent artists such as Nic Gareiss, Kae Sukari, Sophie Stephenson, Rosa Cisneros, Cormac Byrne, Ross Ainslie, Keira Martin, Luisa Galan, Susana Aguilar, Keira Martin, Phil Sanger.

Alongside my work with professionals, I take great pride in regularly working at a grass-roots level across ages and abilities, as well as mentoring others in their own practice.
