Tim Tubbs

A freelance dance manager and producer with 30 years’ experience in the industry, Tim lives in Scarborough, undertaking less artist and touring management than formerly, preferring to focus on consultancy, writing, Scarborough projects and his own creativity. He manages Marylebone Dance Studio in London.

Yorkshire-born, educated at Eton College and Oxford University (MA in English Literature & Language) with extensive musical training, Tim was Stage Doorkeeper at Sadler’s Wells, which he programmed for six years, before going freelance in 1993 and founding his own company UK Foundation for Dance. Tim has managed many dance companies (including Mavin Khoo, Tavaziva, Shobana Jeyasingh, Bi Ma, Imlata, Sakoba and X Factor) and individual artists (including Namron, David Hughes, Jean Abreu, Liz Lea, Edwin Lung, Tobias Tak, Saju Hari, Shane Shambhu and Gerrard Martin). He has curated and event-managed for Royal Opera House ROH2, Mayor of London, Dance Umbrella and The Dancers Trust, including the first “Big Dance” on Trafalgar Square with 800 dancers broadcast live on BBC1 TV.

Tim has produced several shows, including Antonia Franceschi’s “Up From The Waste”, the mature dancers’ showcase “Body of Experience”, and three one-woman shows with Jacqui Chan. He has undertaken consultancies, served on boards, trained dance managers and lectured commercially. Now living in Scarborough, where he writes, directs, produces and performs, Tim manages Marylebone Dance Studio and London Studio Centre’s annual Images of Dance ballet tour, and is currently working with Henri Oguike, while 2012 Scarborough projects include producing a Charles Laughton exhibition and directing “The Sound of Music”. In 2012, Tim returns to commercial lecturing, with series on women writers and historical mysteries.

Tim is an Arts Council Dance Assessor, Treasurer of IDMN (of which he was a founder-member and former Chairman) and has served on many boards and panels, including East London Dance, Lisa Ullmann Travel Scholarship Fund and Arts Council Decibel Selection.
