Gwen Van Spijk

Gwen is a Producer, Consultant, Trainer and Mentor working across the full breadth of the live performance sector.

After working in the commercial sector in the USA and UK, Gwen moved into arts management. She was Administrative Director for Motionhouse Dance Theatre 1992 – 1997 after which she embarked on a career as an independent working with artists including: Russell Maliphant, Carol Brown, Rosemary Butcher and Nigel Charnock. Gwen has also produced a number of one-off projects, including a large-scale dance programme for the Rugby League World Cup 2013 including a performance for the Opening Ceremony at Millennium Stadium, Cardiff (produced with June Gamble) and The Alchemy Project – a pioneering performance-driven, dance project in the Mental Health sector. Gwen has undertaken consultancy projects for clients including: Arts Council England, Arts Council of Wales and South East Dance; delivered training in arts management and lectured on cultural policy and management at the Universities of Falmouth, Surrey and Coventry.

Gwen has a particular interest in work that is collaborative, interdisciplinary and/or for non traditional spaces. Artists that Gwen currently works with include: New Art Club, Hetain Patel, Antonia Grove/Probe, Dublin based Junk Ensemble and Yorke Dance Project. She also works with a number of dance artists and choreographers as a mentor and adviser.

In 2001 Gwen established a production company CUELLP in partnership with Production Manager Austin Lawler and undertakes most of her producing work through CUE, wherever possible working in collaboration with Austin on the realisation of performances and events.
