Claire Summers

Claire is a co-founder of Exim Dance Company, Freelance Arts Manager and a Community Dance Artist.

Graduating from Plymouth University with First Class BA (Hons) in Dance Theatre and an award for her community work. During her time at University Claire deeply embedded herself into the dance community in Plymouth as a practitioner, student, Manager and artist and is currently studying for a Masters in Research looking into the Health Benefits of dance for people with disabilities, long term illness and Mental Health issues.

Having originally trained at Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre in 1998 Claire was forced to leave following an injury. After a five year stretch in the Royal Navy and some un-fulfilling forays in administration and management she returned to a BA in Theatre and Performance (before transferring to Dance in her second year) at The University of Plymouth, and now combines her administration and management experience with her artistic skills.

Claire managed Strictly Collaborative Youth Theatre Company for two years producing two performances for the company and Plymouths first inclusive dance platform.

As a co-director of Exim Dance Company Claire is currently producing several projects including a research and development project with a disabled Viennese dancer which will lead to a UK tour in late 2012, working with a learning disabled center on a community project and platform and city wide Early Years dance project.

Claire is also working with CommonLand Dance based in London on a project with Noyam dance company in Ghana and Dance In Devon as the Ambassador for South Devon working to promote dance in rural Devon.
